Wellness. A word so loosely thrown around in the Modern world. The dictionary definition being ‘the state of being healthy, especially when it is something that you actively try to achieve.’ To some it is word that rolls off the tongue and elicits goosebumps on the skin at the thought of their next yoga retreat or ayurvedic back massage. To others it is an impossible love-affair, easy & enjoyable on some days and unmanageable bordering divorce on others. To most women, it is simply a dream.
Let us further break down the definition. What does it mean to be healthy? One dictionary definition simply puts it down to ‘being free of illness and disease’ whilst another provides a more ‘holistic’ definition of ‘showing physical, mental, or emotional well-being.’ So , if we put that together Wellness should be defined as ‘the state of showing physical, mental, or emotional wellbeing, especially when it is something that you actively try to achieve.’ I will bring your attention to the word ‘or’. So, you can have wellness if you are either physically well OR mentally well OR emotionally well? That does not sound very holistic does it? I am also concerned about the word ‘active’ in the definition…
And Wellbeing? what does that actually mean? Is it not the same as Wellness? Wellbeing is defined as ‘the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.’ Again, that word ‘OR’.
Have I lost you yet? I am sure I have.
Uuka came about out a deep personal desire to understand what it all means, for myself and for all restless women trying to navigate their minds, bodies, and souls in the 21st century. There is a need to broaden this concept so it can become inclusive to all women who want to answer a calling from within to live a conscious, connected and empowered life.
The hope is that as the Uuka community grows we can explore so many avenues for women to find their own definition of being Well and we can create new pathways for women who have dreams of being well, to join us on our journeys.
Uuka will be nourished by energy exchange. Giving and receiving. Encouraging women to relaise that they are not linear concepts and that when Giving in one form (for example a therapy or a donation), the gift of receiving can be in another form (for example a feeling of pleasure or an ooportunity to be grateful). Research shows us that Giving increases our happiness and has a direct physiological effect on improving our health & longevity. Giving has been linked to the release of oxytocin, a hormone (also released during sex and breast feeding) that induces feelings of warmth, euphoria, and connection to others. Furthermore, studies show that Giving is contagious.
Uuka hopes to continuously create more connections, more exchanges and more warm fuzzy feelings for whomever is willing to partake and receive.
By becoming a member of the tribe you will have the opportunity to give more and receive so much more.
